Thanksgiving and Tequila

God Bless America!

Nov. 2002

Weather:
Brisk winds accompanied by the sounds of rustling leaves.

Our Pledge:
To maintain the highest standards we are capable of. To publish information that is based on as much fact as we can find. To have fun without offending most of our readers.

Nov. Events:.

1st, All Saints Day
Celebration of all Saints known and unknown. We do not know much about unknown Saints. But we have access to some hard to find spirits.

5th, Guy Fawkes Day
We found a web site dedicated to this day and it rambled on about tyranny and something or another and my head started to hurt and I gave up.

11th, Veterans Day
President Woodrow Wilson declared Armistice Day on year after World War 1--a national holiday to celebrate victory in "the war to end all wars." As we all know, this war to end all wars crap did not last. Now this holiday is known as Veterans Day (1954).

13th, Diwali
We think this is when this holiday begins. This is an Indian holiday. A celebration that brings light to vanquish ignorance.

14th, Mom's Birthday
Happy Birthday Mom. From all the boys and the girls that put up with them. We love you.

28th, Thanksgiving
Abraham Lincoln was the first who signed into law a bill proclaiming the last Thursday of each November to be Thanksgiving Day. In 1941, Congress amended the law to make the fourth Thursday of each November Thanksgiving.

Lounge Cocktail:

Autumnal Equinox
•2 oz Port
•1 oz Grand Marnier
•1/2 oz Amaretto

Instructions: Fill half glass with ice. Pour ingredients into glass and stir.

As we look at this recipe, that we stole from another site. We asked ourselves, selves, what the hell is port? Port Wine? It confused us. So instead of quality checking this fancy and hard to spell cocktail for you we poured a couple of Bourbons Neat (Bourbon in a glass, neat).

Bourbon was developed just for this time of the year and early spring and mid summer and around Easter and Christmas. We feel it is the all around everyday cure for what ails you. So make a fancy cocktail if you like or grab your evening by the nads and have a cocktail. Thank you for your time.

How Many Wives?

û A little boy was attending his first wedding. After the service, his cousin asked him, "How many women can a man marry?" "Sixteen," the boy responded. His cousin was amazed that he had an answer so quickly. "How do you know that?" "Easy," the little boy said. "All you have to do is add it up, like the Bishop said: 4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer."

Lounging with a movie: Red Dragon

RED DRAGON. Starring Ed Norton, Harvey Kitell, Sir Anthony Hopkins and a really creepy dude. The first movie in the Hannibal Lectur movies, or is it Man Hunter. Who knows. Although I really liked Silence Of The Lambs this movie for me did not hold up as well. Not to say it was not good, just not as good.

I feel a little out of place seeing these films out of order. That may have effected the way I feel about this film. Like Star Wars, I loved Star Wars until they decided to go backwards. Now the earlier movies that came out later have a different feel and have managed to confuse me into not even caring about what is happening. Not to mention I know what is going to happen because I saw the movies that they have not even gotten to yet because they are doing it all backwards. They put the mule behind the cart and I do not think that works. Anyway Knock Around Guys will be out soon and hopefully I will have some good news next time.

Recent Video viewed at The B.K. Lounge

Breakfast of Champions
Written by Kurt Vennegut. Starring Bruce Willis, NIck Nolte, Buck Henry, Owen Wilson, the guy from Green Mile and the red head from the T.V. show News Radio.

I loved this book but I really did not like this movie. We rented it because Owen Wilson was in it and it was my turn to pick out the video.

Insomnia
Robin Williams, Al Pacino and a bunch of other people. Really liked this movie. Originally I had heard that it was not good but I should know better than to listen to critics. Robin Williams is really creepy and I was surprised how quickly I could put his humor behind me to focus on his character. This movie and Panic Room would make for a great evening of thrillers.

Thanksgiving and Tequila

Thanksgiving is right around the corner in America. Although Thanksgiving dinner is something I always look forward to, it is refreshing to break it up a little after your tenth day of turkey sandwiches, turkey hash and stripped turkey BBQ.

We decided to make November fun with a recipe for seafood. Something you can whip up while the tin foil full of turkey sits an extra day. We thought, what a better way to take a turkey break than with two of our favorite foods, shrimp and tequila. So read on and find Tequila Lime Shrimp.

2 pounds of large shrimp in the shell
Skewers, if you are using bamboo, soak them in water for about 1/2 hour.

Marinade:
1/4 cup lime juice, fresh preferred
1/4 cup tequila for the shrimp and
iiiiiii whatever it takes for the cook.
2 medium cloves of garlic, minced
2 medium shallots or
iiiiii one small yellow onion, finely chopped
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons ground pepper
1/2 cup olive oil
lime slices
Beer, whatever you like.

In a large bowl whisk together the lime juice and tequila, garlic, shallots or onion, cumin, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. Slowly add olive oil whisking until combined. Give it a taste to see if it is OK. Since you have probably never made this before and do not know how it should taste go ahead and have a shot of tequila and open a beer for the skewering process.

Pour marinade over shrimp or put the shrimp in the bowl you made the marinade in, what ever works for you. Let stand for 30 minutes or up to 3 hours in the refrigerator.

It is important that you have you beer already open. You will see the errors of your ways when you begin to skewer the shrimp and cannot open a beer because you have shrimp and marinade all over your hands. Learn from my mistakes. Skewer the shrimp like you would see on a T.V. commercial.

Grilling the shrimp over Med-high heat for about 4 minutes on each side would be ideal, but we do realize it is November. You can place them in the broiler in your stove, set on broil and preheated, for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Either way it will be great.

When done Eat the shrimp with lime wedges as the garnish.

NOTICE:
Miss Charlene Mason sang "I will not pass this way again" giving obvious pleasure to the congregation."

Phobia Of The Month:
Dipsophobia- Fear of drinking.

If you are drinking a nice Kentucky Bourbon then the cure would surely be worse than the illness. But after about 6 or 7 cocktails you would probably have more important things to worry about, like walking.
