Political Accident :A bus load of politicians were driving down a country
road one afternoon, when all of a sudden, the bus ran off the road and
crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field. Seeing what happened,
the old farmer went over to investigate. He then proceeded to dig a
hole and bury the politicians. A few days later, the local sheriff came
out, saw the crashed bus, and asked the old farmer, Were they all dead?
The old farmer replied, Well, some of them said they weren't, but you
know how them politicians lie. ================ Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now. -Steven Wright |
Lounging at the movies: Firewall, The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio |
|
Firewall As the robbery flounders and the bad guys show how bad they are Harrison Ford begins to get tired, tired of playing around. We really liked this movie. A lot of "out of the pan and into the fire" action and a lot of stress caused by bad guys and the detailed plan that seems to leave no leaf unturned. |
The Prize Winner Of Defiance, Ohio Based on a true story about a mother of 10, Julianne Moore, who gains extra income from jingle writing contests. Although her alcoholic husband, Woody Harrelson, cases nothing but trouble because he is guilt ridden for not solely providing for his family. We thought the prize was going to be his untimely demise. He actually unnerved us a couple of times. Anyway Mom always comes through and keeps her chin up through good times and a couple of really bad ones. We found the nostalgic trip through the 50's really touching. This is totally a chic flick but has a wide appeal especially after the last couple of minutes play out. If you liked Big Fish and Notebook, you are in for a treat. |

Lounge Eats: Hamburgers |
|||
Hamburgers are easy eats that can be made with little effort. They can range from Mom's recipes to a truly gourmet affair. The Hamburger can be traced back to around 1209 when the armies of Genghis Khan would eat cooked ground meat patties from horseback. The story goes on and involves Russians, Germans and the Webster's Dictionary. The first American Hamburger is attributed to Charlie Nagreen of Seymour, Wisconsin. The story goes that he was selling meatballs at the fair when he realized people having difficulty standing up and eating them. He flattened them out and began serving them on bread coining the name hamburger for his new sandwich. Charlie we love you. Basically a hamburger is composed of ground meat (with a little fat for succulence) formed into a patty and cooked. From this point on you can do what you want. You can use any animal that can be obtained legally from goat to buffalo to lamb to turkey. At one time or another they are all really good. You can add spices or even minced vegetables and cheese. There are a few simple rules to cooking a 'burger that insure it will be all that it can be. 1. Use quality cuts of meat. Buy a nice steak and have it ground. Most ground beef supplied by markets already has to much fat. 2. Make your patties slightly bigger than the bun you will use and not extremely thick. This allows even cooking and the finished burger will fit the bun. 4. Cook your burgers over real mesquite. Not really a rule, just a favorite thing to do. 3. NEVER NEVER NEVER press the burger while it is cooking, unless you are angry. Pressing the juices out of your burger is a huge mistake. The result is a dry burger. 4. Do not cut into the burger for doneness. This ranks with pressing the burger. All the juicy succulence will run out onto your grill or plate and that particular burger will be ruined. 5. Serve your hamburger on bread that is as good as the meat you bought to make it. This also goes for the toppings and condiments you use. |
BBQ Hamburger 2 Lbs. ground beef Make patties from the ground beef and cook on your grill. For the last 5 minutes of grilling brush with BBQ sauce. Serve on onion roll with cole slaw. See toppings below. Blue Cheeses Burger 2 lbs ground beef Either blend together the ground beef and cheese OR make your patties and with your finger, make a pocket in the patty and fill with cheese. Grill until done, serve on favorite bun. See toppings below. Spicy Burger 2 Lbs. ground beef Mix ground beef with hot peppers, pepper cheese and cayenne powder.
Grill until done, serve on favorite bun. See toppings below. Toppings: Obviously ketchup, mustard, onion, lettuce and tomato are excellent toppings for your burger but below are a couple of great toppings in their own right. Cole Slaw |
