God Bless America!

June 2002

Weather:
Warm evenings with beautiful sunsets, big poofy clouds and the smell of charcoal.

Our Pledge:
To maintain the highest standards we are capable of. To publish information that is based on as much fact as we can find. To have fun without offending most of our readers.

June
Events:

14th, Flag Day

14th and 15th, Dragon Boat Festival
China
This celebration has to do with a very famous Chinese poet who drowned. We are not sure why this is a reason to celebrate but then again we have never read his poetry.

16th, Fathers Day

19th, Juneteenth
Celebration of the end of slavery in Texas.

21st, Summer Solstice
Known as Midsummer or Litha to the Celtics and Wiccans or Alban Hefin to the Druids or Inti Raymi to the Incan or Feast of the Sun to the Aztec and for all you Christians out there it is known as St. John's Day/Festival of Saint John the Baptist. This is the longest day if we have the date correct.

Also June 21st is National Aboriginal Day in Canada. So if you are a Wiccan Aboriginal with Incan roots living in Canada you are in for one heck of a wingding.

The B.K. Lounge Grill: Asian Chicken

Do not worry, you can use an American chicken. This recipe is a good one for preparing the day before you go camping. Grilling season at the B.K. Lounge is something we eagerly await. There is something about cooking outside over flames. Watching chicken turn brown as you mind relaxes with the help of a tasty cocktail.

Although this recipe packs some serious flavor it is a snap to make. As long as you do not burn it you can't hardly screw it up. So light up the grill, pour a cocktail, and cook some chicken. Enjoy.

1/2 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon lemon-pepper seasoning
1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
2 cloves garlic skinned, crushed and minced
large pinch of salt
2 boneless chicken breast halves
Vodka
Club Soda
Lime
wedge

Mix together the orange juice, honey, soy sauce, lemon pepper, ginger, garlic and salt in a bowl big enough to mix these ingredients together in. Mix together Vodka, club soda and lime wedge in a cocktail glass with ice.

Set aside 1/4 cup of the marinade for basting. You may begin basting your brain with the vodka cocktail immediately.

In a re-sealable bag put chicken and the marinade. Shake it to coat evenly. Place in fridge overnight.

Grill chicken over medium heat basting several times with reserved marinade. Serve over rice or on rolls with lettuce, tomato and onion.

NOTICE:
Miss Charlene Mason sang "I will not pass this way again" giving obvious pleasure to the congregation."

Lounging with a movie: Conspiracy Theory

We fully intended to review this movie. But to be honest with all you loyal readers out there we went to Casey's in New Buffalo, Michigan and missed the film. But if you must know, and I think you must, Casey's is great place to have a couple or nine pints and chat with locals. I am sure Conspiracy Theory is a fine movie, Mel Gibson is in it, but the Summer Ale from Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo was much better at the moment.

If there is in fact a conspiracy theory to be told it would be why the Bell's Brewery is not as well known as some others. I think that the locals keep it a secret.

In the summer they create their wonderful Oberon Summer Ale. It is light and effervescent and if you visit in the winter time they will have the Bell's Taddy Porter. The Taddy Porter is heavy and wonderful. Rich tasting and sturdy.

We apologize for missing the film but it would have been more of a disservice to let Bell's beer go unattended. It was our duty to stay at Casey's and let the full effect of Bell's beers take hold of our evening. We are sure you understand.

Peace Out.

microphobia: Fear of small things

I wonder what qualifies as small. Small like a midget or small like an ant. I knew a girl who had small ears, does that count.
